Thunderbird Proxy Setup
Thunderbird, a free multi-platform mail reader from the Mozilla Foundation, has an excellent RSS feature (under the name "News & Blogs"). To integrate Thunderbird's RSS support with the FeedTreeProxy:
1. Open Advanced Preferences
Open Thunderbird's Preferences window. [On the Mac, this is under the "Thunderbird" menu; on Windows, it's in "Tools", and Linux, it is "Edit".] Click the gear icon for Advanced preferences (shown below), and click on "Connection Settings".
2. Add Proxy Information
Click the radio button marked Manual proxy configuration. Enter localhost and 8501 as shown.
3. Increase polling rate
Because the FeedTreeProxy is a local cache of up-to-date RSS data, you'll get best results if you poll this cache as frequently as possible. Choose Account Settings... from the Tools menu and click on News & Blogs (as shown below). Change the Check for new articles interval to 5 minutes.
